Default Catalitic Converters... More power???

How much Power?... Question!

back when I bought my car it didn't have Catalytic Converters and I never thought anything of it... but I came to wonder...

"Does taking the Cats off free up any power in the LS1?"

it's a 1999 Z28... just wondering if it actually matters at all

um, yeah. think of the motor as a big air pump. the less restriction on the way in and on the way out, the better.

Youre not gonna notice much on a relatively stock car... But theres a big difference on a heads and cam car with headers and exhaust.

It will make more power, but it will be stinky.

I ran my V around with no cats and an X pipe and it was fun till it wasn't.

Stopped twice, ticketed once (excessive noise).

At least I didn't get written up for the smell.

One could cop a buzz from it.........

I figured the lack of cats was good for about 5-10 hp.

I believe a board member I know did it once on a stock car and it was more to the tune of 3 HP. It makes a huge weight difference though.

The cats are designed not to impede the stock vehicle. Do ANY sort of work on your car and that totally changes.
