Default 87 Octane in a 98 Vette? Help!

i just bought a vette, took it 200 yards down the road to get a drink, came back, and started it up - it took about 4 or 5 tries to get it to idle. After that, I started it up successfully 3 times in a row. I called the previous owner and he said he thinks he may have put in a half tank of 87 octane in it. Could this be the culprit? It has a trak cam, headers, exhaust, stall, etc.

Any mods? Sounds like a tuning issue. Tuning could help if this only happens with hot restarts.

it wasn't really a hot start - it was a more of a cold start. it has a cam headers stall exhaust etc

I don't know why it wouldn't idle with the 87 octane. I would think it would ping with it

The 87 octane has nothing to do with it at all.

could it be perhaps that i didn't let it sit and idle at first for a minute or so?
