Fireball most people think u need timing over 25 but they dont understand that the LS1 comb. chamber is so efficient that in most cases 28 degrees is all u need for safe tune and good power.
I know what your saying as my timing is at 24 at 3000 and by 6500 its at 28 degrees with no knock.
I've had it up to 32 and it didnt do tee tee...
The LS1 head is a marvel and doesnt require high timing to make power but the CR Jason was running combined with high temps and bad gas,high timing did him in,I'm sure he knows this and was just maxing the envelope.

I'm still surprised that he ran so much timing/compression on 93 octane 
If I feel the need to go over 25 degrees (to experiment) I add some good stuff to the tank

Re: Stock pistons go BOOM!! As I said before, I normally ran the car on a 93/104 mix. When I had the straight 93 in there and the piston broke, we were out of 104 at the shop. I know I should have drove the car a little easier when it was full of 93, but oh well. lol It just goes to show you how hard detonation is on the motor.
We saw only a few hp going from 26 to 28/29 degrees, but there was a gain. Every little bit helps.

Re: Stock pistons go BOOM!! Good lord... I wish I had this much time these days to mess with the SS. I'm jealous y'all have the lives that permit such fun. But Im also glad that you folks are the ones pushing the envelope now instead of my wallet
