Stock pistons go BOOM!!
stock pistons + 11.8:1 compression + summer heat + aggressive timing/fuel maps + 93 octane + one driver who keeps their foot to the floor too much in these conditions =
Piston #7
Piston #5
No wonder why the SES light was flashing all the time and the car was smoking bad. lol It's funny, the car drove great still, just smoked like a freight train and felt a little slower than normal. I knew I hurt the motor when I was racing a Vette and heard some weird noises at 140 mph coming from the motor. It started smoking real bad after that.
Also, this was all motor! I haven't installed the TNT kit sitting in my room as of yet. Just imagine if I would have had the 200jets in.
This was the "spare" motor too. The solid roller/forged 346 setup is waiting on some custom pistons from Diamond and a set of LS6 heads from GTP. Those should be back in a few weeks. In the mean time, I'm going to rebuild this setup with bone stock pistons/rods and put my old stock heads back on the car. It's time to go get some new cam only times with a few new Thunder cams.

Bruce, I would guess around 2-3 weeks. It could be sooner or later. I just have to find time to build it after hours.

Joseph, normally, I ran a mix of 104 octane mixed with the 93, but we were out at the shop that week. I figured I could get by, but I was wrong.

Stock pistons are fine if u use them for what they're intended for SPEEDS..
Jason himself said,Agressive timing and high temps with bad gas did him in...
U can use a stock piston with great sucess if its not being hammered past 6500 and your tuning is safe..
Good luck Jason,I'm sure whatever u build it'll fly..

Re: Stock pistons go BOOM!!
Fireball most people think u need timing over 25 but they dont understand that the LS1 comb. chamber is so efficient that in most cases 28 degrees is all u need for safe tune and good power.
I know what your saying as my timing is at 24 at 3000 and by 6500 its at 28 degrees with no knock.
I've had it up to 32 and it didnt do tee tee...
The LS1 head is a marvel and doesnt require high timing to make power but the CR Jason was running combined with high temps and bad gas, high timing did him in,I'm sure he knows this and was just maxing the envelope.
