Default Another oil topic

We were breaking in a solid lifter race motor. My buddy was talking to the guys at Crower cams about the lifters we were using. We are using the cool face lifter with the edm hole bored in them to get more oil to the face of the lobe.

Anyhow, the guy from crower gave us a really wild recommendation. He told us to use either Delo or Rotella truck oil for our break in lube. His reasoning was that many of the truck oils have addative packages that have been removed from regular car oil, but not from HD applications.

He said that he knew we would switch to Mobil 1 or Royal Purple, but his experience had shown that he would recommend running that oil all the time in our race motors.

Just wondering if anyone else had ever heard of this, or had done any analysis on it.

A lot of guys run those oils in regular passenger cars with good results, but I've never seen one used in an LS1 yet. Care to give it a try and do some oil analysis on it?

It is true, their additive packages are different, they typically have more detergents in them, but a different antiwear package.

The Crower guy really was emphasizing the anti-wear properties, since it is used in OTR trucks, etc...
