Default How long is too long?

Hey guys,

I started doing my heads/cam this weekend, but because of some dumbasp school group project I wasn't able to finish. Well and this is my first time, and I am doing it with hand tools and by myself in a carport. Anyways my question is--
How long can the engine stay open safely?
Since I already have the heads pulled , I just need to clean the surface and the bolt holes. My problem is I have school everday and this week might be extremely busy, so I am not sure when I might get to it. It may be in a day or two(which I dont feel bad about doing, I cover the open engine with my fender covers) but it could be more like next weekend(which now I am feeling a little worried about.

Thanks in advance

Oh and everything has gone pretty smoothly "knock on wood", cant wait to start her up.

as long as you keep the engine covered when you are not working on it you should be ok

Keep it covered and take all the time you need.

Might be a good idea to oil it up to protect from corrosion and moisture.

Keep it covered completely. I had my valve covers off and had a fender cover that didn't cover everything completely. Only a little bit in front was left exposed. Left garage door open, hood was closed. Nothing short of a typhoon hit. The heat extracters in the Firehawk hood allowed the block to fill with water. Bad news. COVER IT COMPLETELY

As other have said, keep it covered and clean while you work and you should be good.

Heck, I've had mine open for months while waiting on parts...haha.

I usually stuff clean rags into the lifter tray areas. Have also taped off the intake and exhaust ports to keep things out of them. Worked pretty well.
