Make sure 1 is at tdc

 

Definitley get the dots lined up, count the number of teeth from each side of the dots to make sure there are the same amount from the dot to the chain on each side, the first time I did it, I started it up and I thought it sounded fine and drove it about 500 miles and snapped a valve, it hit the piston and left an eyebrow in them then the bottom of the valve broke off and got jammed into my ported heads..
