Default 2002 GM MLS Gasket

Can I run the MLS gasket from GM that came on the '02 cars on my 2001 block?

GM does not show that the 2002 gasket can be used on the 2001. The main difference that I can see is the thickness. The 2001 is 1.002 mm and the 2002 is 1.33 mm. Go aftermarket, Cometic and Felpro make a bunch of different thicknesses.

Yes you can. Both the 01 and 02 cars should use a MLS gasket that claims to be .060, but usually mic's out to around .053. You cant run these gaskets on older 98 heads because they have a notch that would allow water to leak right out.

Hmmm....I have an '01 block and '98 heads.....so I guess I can't use these. Will I have any problems with a regular Cometic gasket?

Depends if they have provisions to seal out the notch in the heads. Match them up if the motor is still apart.

Get the notch welded.
