Default quiet the valvetrain?

I have:

Headers, TR224 cam, unknown valve springs, and I assume pushrods. (bought the engine second hand)

Anyhow... the valvetrain is way too loud. It doesnt sound like anything is "wrong" per say, its just loud. It sounds like a cam'ed engines valvetrain.

Is there any way to quiet this down? I personally think it makes the engine sound kind of crappy as it almost sounds like an exhaust leak ticking when I am near walls or anything, which I really hate

Any mods I can make to make it *not* sound this way?

I'm running the Patriot 226/585 cam which is not much bigger than your cam and I used 7.425 pushrods instead of the 7.400 that everyone seems to use and my engine is dead quiet. I used comp cams adjustable pushrod to measure and 7.425 was what I came up with.

I have the same problem where the engine is louder than the exhuast. My pushrods are 7.4 also. Would 7.425 realy make that much of a difference. My cam is a 228 230 w 1.8 rockers and .602 lift.

Good point. . . . . it is a known fact that cammed cars make more engine noise. Changing your pushrod length may quiet it down, but it will always be a little louder than stock.

Perhaps a good point, but utterly worthless advice. Why would I put it back to stock when there are plenty of people mentioning running a very slightly longer pushrod and it reducing the noise by a large amount? ( I went ahead and also did searches on this subject when I didnt get many responses here...)

The longer PRs usually do help, however its hard to suggest without knowing the exact components you have in there and what all the specs are. We need base circle dia and PR length at the very least.

If you dont want more noise, don't mod your car. Go buy yourself a nice gutless luxury vehicle and listen to your iPod.
