List of defective GM parts - inside
These cars are fun to own but some of GM's shortcommings are listed below for reference.
1. Exploding rocker arms - needle bearings
2. Oil pumps with bad relief valves
3. Non-hardened push rods
4. Noisy lifters
5. poorly designed oil pick-up tubes
6. PCMs that get water-logged
7. Pulley tensioners that squeek
8. Bad sensors (cam, crank, knock, etc.)
9. PVC systems that suck oil into the intake
10. Rings/pistons that promote oil consumption
Did I miss anything?

What was the point of this topic?
If **** fails on an engine you replace/upgrade it. You don't sit there worrrying "OMG is this damn GM is gonna not start because I didn't replace the crank sensor just in case OMG."

Every part mentioned is made by the same companies that make aftermarket parts and parts for other OEM's, heck figure out who the supplier is and bash them for a change. Do you think that GM actually makes any of the components in your list? They use Mahle, Melling, Gates, Delphi, Wix, etc.

From personal experience: headlights that blink on and off at 3 sec. intervals
piston slap that you can hear 100yds away
All declared to be "NORMAL" by GM and not fixed under warranty.

All cars have annoying parts to them. How else can you get picky people that spend tons of cash to buy new cars every 2-3 years?
The fact that you expect a platform with 5-14 years of service to be perfect is abnormal. We were still pulling out of making crappy cars when the first Camaros were coming of the line.
10. Rings/pistons that promote oil consumption
That was addressed in 2002
9. PVC systems that suck oil into the intake
I replace mine every 2 years. No problem with the PVC. Virually every car does have some oil in the intake. It does no harm and makes the car smell alot better.
If you take care of your LS1 it will last many many miles. Unfortuantely, the lifestyle of a performance car doesn't allow for long life spans.
I paid for a performance car and GM gave me one. That is all I care about.

hmmm, here's two HUGE things that ford owners would bitch about that I'm glad I don't have to deal with:
1: The cost of FORD PARTS = ******* EXPENSIVE!
2: Ford's "special tools" required to change those parts = ******* EXPENSIVE + you only use them once(hopefully)!

After: how to fix all the above (add corrections where needed) im not perfect
1. Purchase newer rocker arms
2. new ported oil pump
3. chromoly hardened pushrods 7.400
4. let your car warm up a bit
5. design you own
6. wrap yours in plastic
7. WD-40 or gatorback belt
8. buy new ones
9. catch can
10. design your own ring and piston set that wont promote consumption
