Default Started changing the cam tonight.

The crank bolt came off easily with the aid of a 5’ breaker bar. I used a 2 ton puller from NAPA to remove the pulley, when I ran out of threads I removed the bolt and put a socket in there to finish it off. After pulling the cover I now see what you guy’s mean about the chain play. I measured about 2 or 3 degrees of play on a 25,000 mile engine. Glad I got the SD double roller. So far no problems.

Thanks Jason, Hope your rebuild goes smooth too. I'll get to TR230 in there this week for sure, but I may end up with the Yella's while it's apart. Thunder did me right on getting all the parts to me quickly. Say hey to Angie.

I havent replaced mine in 50thousand miles, it seemed pretty loose with this last cam swap, should i invest in a new timing chain?

i had a new stock chain and double roller available when i did my swap....went with the SDPC double roller since it was not that hard to swap...dropping the oil pan for the oil pump pick up is a pain but I'm glad i got it done...

I've got 15K, changing cams, NOT changing chain..unless we get in there and see it needs to be changed...

SD double roller w/torrington is about $80.00. After seeing the stretch on the stock chain I am glad I went ahead with it. Got the Thunder oil pump too. Just want to make it right the first time, why go back in later.
