Default O-ringed heads?

i am looking at a set of used o-ringed heads and i have no experiance with o-rings. I will be running just h/c and i realize i don't need o-ringed heads but these used heads are a great deal and i was wondering if i could still use them and what would i have to use with them?

are the heads o-ringed or are they cut for receiver grooves?

either way you can use them on a regular block, the ohio boys are using a o-ringed head with stock GM gaskets to get their car down the quarter in 7.90's at 180+

what kind of issues would i have? I just started porting my heads and these would save me a lot of time if i can use them. I'm not sure if they are cut for reciever grooves i was just told they were o-ringed. If i can use these what do i need to use them like i said i'm not fimiliar with o-ring heads.

If the heads are o-ringed they were probable meant for boost or alot of nitrous. You can run them on your block if you get the right gaskets. I dont see you having any problems with them.

generally, heads are cut for reciever grooves for o-rings in the block, but if they are o-ringed, that meAns your block then must have reciever grooves cut into it, which can be pretty pricey and requires the motor to be pulled out and taken to a machine shop.

you can run into issues where you blow a head gasket, lose compression, etc etc.

usually o-rings are made for boosted applications, not nitrous. as it allows the heads to sit inside of a groove in the block, and tighten the heads down a bit tighter to create a better seal since theres going to be alot of boost.

i wouldnt buy them if i were you.

You can use an O-ringed head with a fel-pro graphite gasket with no problems and not have to do anything to the block. The biggest problem with o- rings is if the head is not flat or you want to mill for compression you cannot just mill the head you have to take the wire out. IMO orings are a PITA

You can certainly use o-ringed heads, but you must use a graphite head gasket. Using a MLS gasket will damage with o-ring wire and defeat the purpose of it. I have TEA o-ringed 6.0L Stage III heads and I am very happy with them.
