Default oil pressure dropped 10lbs

Ok I just dropped a 04 ls1 {22k miles}out of a gto in my silverado. I put a comp 220/224 (new) in it. I had oil pressure problem at first because i didnt replace the oring on the pick up tube. I have driven the truck about 25 miles and the oil pressure went from 40 to 30 lbs at idle. It sits at about 750 rpms at idle. If you bump it up to 1000rpm it climbs to about 38lbs. I have a nitrous tune from the old smaller cammed 5.3 in it. It still has the truck intake and 5.3 injectors. It has a bit of pinging under accel. { i think spark knock} I smelt the oil to make sure it isnt dumping too much fuel and maybe thinning the oil. It does have a fuel smell to it but not too bad. Any thoughts would help. Thanks

well the filter isn't your problem most likely, if it was a fram i was going to suggest changing it to a wix. 30 isn't really drastically low for idle, unless thats as high as it goes, it just seems weird that it all of a sudden dropped like that.

lemme brainstorm

30psi at idle is fine and about normal. I wouldn't worry about it.

You need to get the correct tune loaded. The 5.3 tune is obviously going to run lean on a 5.7 even before you take the cam into consitteration.

it is programmed a tad rich already. But yes it does need to be tuned. My 2001 z28 has 77k and it idles at 40lbs all day long. I am just wondering what caused it to do this all of a sudden.

I would replace the filter. A clogged filter lowered my pressure.

I agree. See how it is after you get it tuned.

I just talked to Nelson about a new tune so we will see. I know it needs tuned badly but i am worried about the oil pressure dropping all of a sudden. I thank all of you for your input on this.

Hope you get the pressure issue sorted out, and let us know how that ls1 runs after the tune! How do you like that cam btw?

Um, did you try replacing the oil sending unit. Did you have to take the intake off of the motor when you did the swap. If so then I would check your sending unit.
