Default Comp 918 broke!

My comp spring broke after 3,000 miles. I have been hearing a ticking sound over the past few weeks, and the engine has been running rough. I thought it was an exhaust leak (since my EGR was leaking were it connected to my headers). I stripped off the EGR, blocked it, and I still had the sound. After checking the plugs, and header bolts I finally pulled off the valve cover and part of the spring had snapped off. I can send anyone pics who wants to see it, since the file is too big to upload.

Supposedly these springs are good up to .600 lift, but I guess not.

Just curious, have you been letting the car warm up to operating temp before doing any hard driving?

Yeah, I always let it warm up if I'm going to drive it hard. I'll even let it warm up for average driving.

Comp had a problem with some batches of these springs. You may want to look into it.

Actually I just read in a recent thread that you can call comp, tell them your 918's were bad and they'll send you a new set of 921's or something like that, someone please clarify

Just bought a Vengence cam and Ron doesnt use the 918's due to that reason, a bad batch. Comp gave them a different spring which is so far holding up fine.

You're suprised?

Swap in a set of PAC-1218s or PAC-1518s and be done with it.

Call Red at Comp Cams (warranty manager type) and tell him about your issues. He'll get you taken care of.

XBROKEX - Are you kidding me? I guess you'll never want to run a caddy race lifter, L92 heads, and a whole SLEW of other parts from GM on your car. Heck, you should probably start tearing into your car now and rid yourself of such parts....you might still be able to roll down the road, but I doubt you'd have combustion!

I will call over there and see what they can do for me. I have an order in for PRC Dual Springs right now, but if Comp can replace them, I'll have to cancel that order.

Did you happen to note the Batch number from the box by chance?

My car has some recently installed 918's, but no issues YET...

I just spoke with Comp and they are awesome to deal with. They are sending me the 928s as soon as they get them through QA. They also let you choose between money towards the install cost or titanium retainers. Great people to work with, they took care of this immediately.

Oh, and my batch number is 054524. I guess there have been a few others from this batch, but not as many as other batches.
