everyone said he is good and they were pleased , he wasnt throwin stuff around and tryin to hurry and make his money and get out of there
I take it you have an air compressor? Or is he bringing his own? Does he remove the A/C condensor or move it to the side? If other people are happy with him and you feel confident then go with him. Cam swaps are easy. Especially if he has done them in the past.
What about time spent bonding with your ride, and the pride of being able to say, "I made this machine the badass animal that it is today!" I say do it yourself, there is a lot of satisfaction in building a car.
but what about the springs? aren't those a biotch to install even if you do have the tools? about how long would it take for my FIRST cam, springs, retainers and pushrod change?

Do it yourself. Get your hands cut-up and greasy. It's the only way you are going to really learn about these engines and get some satisfaction in knowing you are more than just an "Arm-chair Internet Gearhead"!
If you don't try to do it yourself you'll never learn. You can always call him to finish up if you get stuck. Changing springs is a pain in the ***, but its not rocket science. Just take your time.
