MOBIL 1 0W40 oil ?

Re: MOBIL 1 0W40 oil ?
Mobil 1 0w40 is a very good oil, don't let the 0w number scare you as it's actually thicker than Mobil 1 10w30 at 40 celcius (which is approximately the temperature of your oil on a cold start in the hot summertime). It's viscosity is 80.3cst at 40c, versus 61.3cst for 10w30. The 0w40 is only thinner than the 10w30 when it's extremely cold out. But that's when you want it to be thinner!
This oil is factory fill in many European cars such as Porsche and Mercedes. I'd recommend it over Mobil 1 5w30 or 10w30 for sure. It has shown good oil analysis results so far in many different types of cars.

Re: MOBIL 1 0W40 oil ?
I have used this oil a bunch over the last few years. ...although my oil analysis is somewhat crude when compared to the Patman, (does the engine still run??) my view is that this is an excellent product.
Since I cannot readily buy some of the other true synthetics (Royal Purple) I now stick exclusively to Mobil 1. (Most all others labeled sythetic in the stores I visit - K-Mart - are dino based.)

Hey Patman:
Did you realize there are now two Patman's on the Board now; the new guy actually modifies his car?
..Thanks for small favors!

Patman:
I ordered one of those oil test kits you are always talking about. I just changed H/C and then changed oil and filter drove the car around for 30 miles and changed the oil and filter again....
Will this oil test at a subsequent 3K mile mark be a good indicator of the condition of the motor/oil. Should I wait till I have another oil change to send the sample in for analysis to the guy with 20 years experience?

Robert, if you want to do the sample after 3000 miles on your current oil, it'll be fine. Who did you order the sample kit from, Blackstone? If so, did you get the Terry Dyson package? (he's the man!)

Ok, thanks. It is Blackstone - what is the TD package?
Can you please change your handle to "Patman#1" since there are two Patmans on the board now. Thanks...

Re: MOBIL 1 0W40 oil ?
The Terry Dyson package is $35 and it includes the TBN and when the analysis is done they send it to him for interpretation. He's much more thorough in his explanation and he'll answer all your questions very quickly.
As far as changing my handle, I'm the Patman, always have been, always will be, no need for adding a #1 after it, everyone knows I'm #1!

Re: MOBIL 1 0W40 oil ?
OK. What is a Patman; is this some movie actor thing or something? How could two car guys (or one car guy and one oil analysis guy) have the same handle on a small Internet chat board?
I read some of the oil analysis that were provided on the web. It was all very interesting.
One thing I noticed was the car owner provided lots of information to the analyst. Like: car mileage, oil used, miles driven since last oil change, type of car, driving conditions, etc.
This is sort of like telling a fortune teller your life history before he tells you what your future holds.....
Wouldn't it be better to just send in the sample with no information and ask them to tell you about the condition of the engine and the effectiveness of the oil. I mean if the oil analyst loves Royal Purple (my favorate oil) then if you tell him you are using it he is more likely to tell you glowing things about this great product....

Re: MOBIL 1 0W40 oil ?
It's very important to tell as much info as possible when getting your oil analysis, because things like top up oil, driving habits, car modifications, etc, all play a big role in the analysis. Mileage is very important, because 20ppm of iron would be pretty high for a 3000 mile sample, but would be excellent if the sample had 20,000 miles on it.
As far as what is a Patman? I don't know, I just thought it sounded cool, sort of like Batman. My first name is Patrick. I don't know who this other Patman is that you speak of on here. I haven't seen any of his posts. I'm sure if there is someone on here trying to pass himself off as me, Tony or PSJ will take care of it and change his username for me. I had someone try to do that on the oil board that I'm administrator of. One quick visit to the UBB control panel took care of that little problem over there.

Re: MOBIL 1 0W40 oil ?
Patman #2 acknowledges that he is new to the board. He also asks dumb car questions relating to performance modifications ...apparently, he has no interest in motor oil, however...so it could not be someone trying to impersonate YOU!
Besides, I could not imagine why anyone would want to impersonate you!
Hey, do you think your budy that has 20 years of oil analysis experience would try a fast one on you? He seems pretty SLICK to me!
