Default Diff in years for LQ9

I was told by a friend of mine that to do the L92 head swap you have to use a 03-up LQ9 block, I have tried the search function to no avail. He told me that the bolt patterns are diff. between the 03-up and the 03-down. I am asking cuz I might be getting a hell of a deal on a used LQ9 short block. Its out of a 99 and would like to run the L92 heads on this engine. thanks for the help.

First off, the LQ9 bolt pattern has not changed. Only thing that did was that two size head bolt lengths were used on early years (2001-2002) versus newer (2003+) blocks which had alll the lengths the same. LQ9 started in 2001, so if it is a 1999-2000 6.0L it will be an LQ4 low compression engine. The L92s will fit on any 4.00" or larger bore engine.

head bolt pattern is the same from 97+ gen 3/4 engines. the length of bolts changed in one year, but the pattern itself is the same

Early 6L's came with iron heads. Besides that, the differences are nil...

-The LQ4 is the low compression motor used in 2500HD trucks, express vans etc etc... Dished pistons, 9.5:1 comp.
-The LQ9 is the motor used in the SSS's, Escalades, and VHO's. Higher stock comp ratio... They both share the same BLOCK. Pistons were the only difference.

The only difference is the head bolt length as stated. No difference in bolt pattern.
