I mean are the cars with like stage2 ports and stock displacement. The cam cars are putting it down, now is the compression causing most of the extra hp gain or what? Just because a set of heads can flow 300cfm dosen't mean they necessarily will, I know part of that depends on the cam. I'm NOT trying to start a war I am just saying what it appears to me is that the cam/bolt-on cars are doing good for the money they spend. Or am I totally missing the total hp gained with heads and not just the peak hp? Like the cam cars have high peak hp but not as much throughout the powerband or what you tell me.
P.S. I am trying to decide what to do about a set of heads.

...the cam only cars are really fast and the dollar spent per HP gained is high.
Ported heads are expensive but can really make some great power...
...not sure if most of the power comes from higher CR... CNC porting does increase flow and power even with the relavitvely restrictive intakes we are forced to use...
I'm running heads at 11.4 CR and no knock yet...I'm really surprised on this point because I was considering ways to cut CR with heads milled .055..

These LS1 motors respond very well to cam-only upgrades because the factory heads flow significantly better than motors of the past. If you go with two much cam though, you start to lose compression due to valve overlap leaking it off. So with a really big cam, more compression is not a problem and even needed.

I think the heads/cam opinion comes down to how fast you want to go.
Every engine builder I've ever dealt with has always said the same thing. The REAL power is all in your head(s)!
