Default heads?

I'm looking into getting a set of heads to go along with my MS4 cam in a 02 Z06.

What is the differance between Ls6, L92, Ls7, 6.0, and 5.3l heads???? What would be the best set of heads for my setup at a decent price. Not looking to go nuts and get AFR's, even though I know they are really good. Is the price in heads really worth the extra bit of hp? What type of hp gain would I get with aftermarket heads over the stock LS6 heads?

Was looking at these

or would these heads be better with the comp valve job be better???

i would actually call TSP and talk to them directly. They will be able to point you in the right direction with power vs $$ in mind

Holy crap, you have over 450 posts and you still don't know the differences between an LS6 head and an L92 head!? Check out the Newbie's section!

I'll be nice and get ya started anyways. Porting your LS6's would be your best bet at this point. LS7/L92 heads suck and wouldn't fit the stock bore anyways, 6.0L heads would drop your compression ratio killing power, and 5.3 heads would raise compression but aren't anything stellar as far as the port goes.

The LS6 (243 castings) heads have the best ports and have a nice chamber as well. I couldn't tell ya how much power you'll gain because there are too many variables at play. Who ports them, what valve sizes, how big the chambers are, if they replaced the seats (lol), RPM range, etc. all that plays a part in the performance of the head and consequently, the entire engine. Expect at least 30hp if nothing is stupid or messed up (like no tune, or stopping at 5500 RPM).

The "search" button is also very useful here in finding dyno graphs and results from others who have run an MS4 and ported LS6's. Don't worry, that setup isn't rare either so you should find plenty of results.

Thanks KCS. I really have never looked into heads before. Always into cams, and forced induction. All of my buddies that had cams, never went with heads. I got some other info from the external gen 3 fouru, so I know now that the LS6 heads are the only ones worth even looking into.

Tried to call Texas speed today but no ansewer and their voice mailbox was full?????? Plus I had emailed them on saturday, still nothing back???

Try contacting Mike about porting your stock heads:

http://www.cfmperformance.com/cfmhome.htm

He's in IL right now and may be able to get you in. He just did a set of 241's for me and they flow great.

Thanks.
Talked with jon at texas speed. Can't see paying $1500 with gaskets and arp head bolts for 25rwhp.

Like you said, I may ask the local spped shop owner that my dad knows about getting the heads ported and polished and a valve job.
