Default My 99 TA has given me its first bad problem :(. Loud Knocking

Well guys this morning i got up early bc i had to be at work at 6:00AM. Well since today is friday i decided to drive my TA. It has the MS4, th350, 3500 stall, all valvesprings and all that good stuff. Well when i cranked it up this morning it was making no noise at all. I let it run for about 2 min before i left.

So i start heading to work taking it really easy bc of the cold weather and i was waiting for my car to warm up. I even stopped and got gas and left the car running so that was about another 3min or so.

SO i start heading back to work, as im driving i start hearing a knocking sound, and it sounded like it was coming from the front of the transmission. THe car seemed to still run fine and shift fine except there was this knocking sound. I was only about a min from work so just wanted to make it there and park the car. WHen i stopped the knocking seemed to quit and as i got to about 3k rpm it seemed to quite down a bit.

Well as i pulled into my parking lot, the car died she just shut off. It will still crank but when it cranks i can hear than knocking sound and it dies. SO i just left it where it was until i can check it out after work or somehting.

I dont think its valvetrain bc it sounded like it was coming from the front of the tranny. My thought is maybe one of the converter bolts came out or something from it getting cold and hot down here in bama??

If any of you guys have any thoughts on what this can be let me know bc im ready to carry this thing to the drag races. .. This sux bc my car has never given me a problem like this

Thanks guys.

If its still giving you driving/idling issues, pull a valve cover, check the springs.

Also you can get under the car and turn the flywheel and check the converter bolts.

Also do the standard Fuel Pressure test.

Try that 1st. GL

Ya I was polanning on pulling the valve covers just so i can take a look at them and make sure everything looks good.

ALso in order for it to start i had to give it a lil bit of gas .. I hate when things happen to this car .. I take such good care of it i figured i wouldn't have a problem out of this thing for awhile.

Well anyone else got any ideas, or has had something similar happen to them.

I just hope its nothing major with Christmas coming and all.

Well guys i just got back in from removing the passenger valve cover bc it kinda sounded like thats wehre it was coming from. Well nothing was broke and it still looked new under there. .

The oil level was fine, and oil is changed about every 700-1000 miles bc when i drive it its usually to beat on it. THats why its only used on the weekends.

As i was removing the coil pack, the plug wire on #6 pretty much fell off .. Well i went ahead and tore it all down to look anyways. Well nothing was broke so i put it all back on and made sure the wires were all on.

Well once it was all back together i cranked her up and she started just as usual so i was like YESSS!!! THen i got out of the car and the car started the knocking sound once again .. So i quickly went and turned it off. I really hate to say it but i think i may have tore the bottom end up . And i never even got to take it to the track and nor did it ever even get about 6200rpm .

I couldn't get under it to check the converter bolts but i could feel one and it was tight. Also i yanked and pulled on the headers and also the converter and they seemed to stay in place. BUt thats not to say they dont move when shes running . Me and my dad are going to take it back to my house and once i can jack it up ill take a look at the converter.

If it is the converter ill be a happy camper. If it is the bottom end, well im defintely going to upgrade . Forged and lozzz of spray..

Wish me luck guys bc i really dont feel like spending $2500 on taking the block to the machine shop and getting rods and pistons and lifters put in it.
