didnt see the 2nd part of your question, if you went with an ls6 cam you cannot keep your stock LS1 springs. ANY aftermarket cam needs better springs than the stockers. You can pickup come LS6 yellow springs for cheap on this board, under $100. I've seen them even go for $60 on here...

A friend put down 406 with the ls6 cam/ls6 head package, unported heads and intake. Drives like stock.
I've got a 220/224 camshaft with .563 lift on a 117lsa.. would fit your criteria. Pm me if interested.

I use to run the LS6 cam and have put several in stock motor cars LS1 Camaros and Trans Ams. I went 11.91 on drag radials with stock 241 (LS1) heads and 3.73 gears in my )1998 Camaro 6 speed and they say run 7.425 pushrods or 7.45 pushrods and I tryed both and ended up running 7.40 (stock) pushrods. and the reason they say to do this is the valves in the LS6 heads are a hair longer. I also always put Comp Cams 918 springs with stock retainers on them and raise the rev limiter to 6500 RPM and pull a little timing out. I had a lot of fun with it but it was time to upgrade. LOL Good Luck

I you want performance and money is an issue, jus get the LS6 but it its not. Jus go with Predator-Z cam or and MTI steath cam 1 or 2 will be good also. Either way, I would up grade the springs on any cam swap.
