should I change my cam
I had to pull my motor out do to a little nitrous detenation on some bad fuel. It broke part of the skirt of the number 5 piston. We are going to bore to next size and put some forged rods and pistons back in, and go ahead and port and polished the heads. Right now the car has a 221/224 with 113 seperation. Do you guys think I should go with a bigger cam if so please give me some advice. The car already has full exhaust, moser 12 with 4.10 gears. I will not run bigger than a 150 shot, would like to make a little over 400hp to wheels without the bottle. Also what brand of pistons and rods to you guys recommend. Car is a 2002 ss slp option coupe.

with it out....why NOT swap out that little baby cam?
that being said...if you port the heads, a cam like the 228 or F13 would make for a nice setup. you should be at 400wrhp at least and with a good tune have great driveability.
something a bit milder would be the tried and true TR224

You cant BORE a LS1, you can do a slight hone, send it to a machine shop and see if they can save it from a resleeving. If you can save it, def forged rods and pistons and ARP bolts all around, that should make for a good motor. I would also move up in cam, you do not need a nitrous spec cam, just a decent street cam, maybe 228/230 @ 112 will do wonders

As per the Chevy LS1/LS6 Performance Book...
ISBN 1-55788-407-2 on pg 42 under BORING AND HONING.
I Cite....
Blocks from 1997 and 1998 cannot be bored but they can be honed up to 0.0040" The liners redesigned for 1999 and newer blocks (including LS6) can be bored 0.010"
Depending on damage, if you need to go more then 0.010" your going to have to resleeve it.

ok thanks for the info. The machine shop said they could do a slight hone and get rid of the small scratches. I am new to the ls1 thing since I have always had mustangs in the past. I was not sure if you could bore it and just but a little bit bigger size piston in it or not.
