Default Heads for 5.3

Been looking into doing some head work and a cam for my truck, nothing crazy, just a bit more power w/o losing anything down low. It is a 5500# truck so I can't afford to lose on the bottom. Have a 2500 stall, all rest info in sig.

Looking into working over my heads as to getting new ones.

Have spoken with several sponsors and one of them told me that there are no 5.3 bore specific heads on the market and he doesn't think the larger bore 5.7 heads would be good for me. Yes they would flow more, but the ridge caused by the smaller bore in the block could cause problems.

Is this a problem?

This guy was the last of six places I talked to and the only one to mention this.

Remember, it is a truck and won't see the high side of 6k if the tires aren't smoking.

Not sure what that last guy you talked to was trying to say. Check these heads out http://texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=84

Reread your post... TEA will rework your heads

[QUOTE=cam1999;8095842]Not sure what that last guy you talked to was trying to say.

The best I could figure, is that the bore on the 5.3 is smaller than a 5.7 and the edge of the chamber would not line up exactly with the bore. There would be a slight ridge of the end of the block exposed.??? Does this sound correct?

Have you spoken with Richard at West Coast Cylinder Head? He is a sponsor on Performance Trucks. He is very knowledgeable and has some great prices on 5.3 porting. I have done business with him before, and would not hesitate to do it again.

Yes I have. I think. Spoke with two different people there and they were very helpful.

Did not ask them about the bore size difference b/c I was unaware of it.

Guess on monday I'll make the calls again.

Richard has experience with 5.3's, he knows them very well. He will be able to assist you in making an informed choice.
