Default How to spend 8k...

Hey guys!

How would you spend 8k?!

I have a '00 TA 58k miles. My only mod is 3500 stall. Would you go H/C and all the bolt ons, or go bigger CID?

I would love to have a bigger cube motor, but I havent see much on the ET's/streetability.

Thanks!!

New (bullet proof)bottom end(pistons, rods, ect...), stage 2 heads, mild cam, strenthen everything else, and Turbo for the engine (should get you in the 800 and up hp range), then you need to get a 6 speed, mcleod dual disc clutch, drive shaft, 12 bolt rearend, 4.10 gears, suspension mods, and any other bolt on you can think of! (btw, this is above the 8k mark, just spend spend spend)

or you could give me the 8k and I'll let you know how the mods work out, lol, j/k

After all that I think he'd spend above 8k... freshen up the bottom end at least, heads and cam from a reputable sponsor, some suspension mods, headers, ls6 intake, and maybe a few more toys depending on $$$ left over

Just to offer a different idea, you could go with a 9 inch rear and a Blower running low boost (under 5 psi) on the stock motor, then do the other things later on. With forced induction, you will have much less need for the heads, cam, and headers.

$6K will get you the Vortech V9 SQ G kit (what I have )

If you pay for the install, there goes the other $2K, but if you and your buddies put it in, then the $2k will nearly get you the 12 bolt that is sorely needed after adding 150+ HP to your car.

If I went with a blower, would I still have the need to open the engine up and beef it up?

I may have to do more research on Forced Induction, please tell me more.

Just go for ported heads, a cam and headers... ...put the rest in your 401K since the market is increasing once again...

I'm running the 9# kit on a BONE STOCK motor. If you really want to be KraZy, then do that.

No offense, but the heck with the 401k. The need for speed is NOW, not when I'm an old fart with arthritis and can't push the clutch in.
401k =
FAST *** ride =

Seriously, the motor has lived with 9 lbs of boost for 8k miles on 93 Octane. So far... so good... so many other guys driving around here with no doors because I blew them off.

I'd say H/C,12 bolt and if you have anymore more money get the rest of the bolt ons.

I just got done doing this myself. 8k i'll tell you where I put and am putting it. Forged pistons and rods, stage 2 5.3's, tr224 114, FLP level 4 transmission, LS6 intake, Ported oil pump, BMR Xtreme torque arm, BMR boxed subframes and LCA's, Cometics, Ford 30 lb injectors, new bearings rod and main, arp head studs and finally the new NXL kit. That should be just around 8k. Was for me anyway.

That depends on how much boost you run. Up to 5psi is no problem on the stock motor. Other benifits of FI is you can run a stock or other small cam so your idle is smooth and emissions aren't messed up. Another is you don't have to rev your motor to the moon to get the power. You will need PCM tuning no mater what you do so leave some money for EFILive5 and LS1edit.

give it to me ....

this is what I would do:

- forged pistons
- stock rods w/ ARP bolts
- stock crank
- ARP head and main studs
- stage 3 heads
- blower cam
- supercharger

i install my parts myself...and charge very little for installs that are local to me. you'd have to be nuts to pay someone 60 an hour to do some of this stuff.

TEA heads-1600 bucks
cam-400
12bolt-2200
headers-1000
slicks/skinnies-1000
suspension(torque arm,LCAs tubular K member)-1000
and 1000 in misc ARP head bolts, gaskets, oil pump etc etc and a lil left over for a 12 pack during install.

Personally I see good heads/cam setups making the same power as stock motors with blowers, so why add an unreliable power adder to make the same #s a good NA motor can make. Goodluck man

same here.....why pay someone else $1000 to put a cam in. I did it myself and thus was able to take the money I saved and do heads at the same time.

I really like the idea of a supercharger!

I had also bounced around the idea of going to a 382. I may need to save some money. All of this is from a car accident I got into. They will be cutting me a check, inwhich I want to add to my car since I wouldnt have the money if I didnt have it. ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

What about this:

TSP Off-Set Ground 396 cid LS1 Stroker with Cast-Iron Block, Assembled Short-Block

How well would this work out? If I got this I would not have the money for a 12 bolt though
