Default Crane tool help ???

Hey guys,

Im using the Crane tool to change my valvesprings and it seems that the tool cant get the spring fully compressed without the stud bottoming out on the head first. The heads are AFR's if it matters. Is there something im missing?

make sure that the tool is seated fully on the rocker pedestals...on some aftermarket castings, the valve cover perch is too wide for that compressor...it can be ground down but a lot has to be taken out off of the bottom of the tool.

yes...you can grind on the bottom of the tool where it fits over the valve cover bolt perch, but like i said, a lot has to be taken out. Not sure how much on the AFRs, but get the dremel out.

Wouldnt it be easier to cet my cutting wheel out and cut some of the stud off to give it more room to collapse?

If the tool is bottoming out on the head, then shortening the bolt wouldn't help because the tool itself is the hold up. You would have to grind on the bottom of the tool where it is hitting the head.

In my orignal post it says that the actual stud hits the head

EDIT: Nevermind I re-positioned the stud and its actually the tool body.

I had to modify mine to work on the Dart heads by opening up the part that fits over the valve cover boss. You may need to do the same.
