382~427 Owners Come Inside
What size of cams are everyone using? I currently have a 226/230 .571/.575 114lsa. I am thinking I might need more duration.I am going to give some of the forum vendors a call tomorrow to see about getting a self installed stroker kit.
But am also curious about using the stock crank and maybe having it hardened.I am not so worried about having the stroker motor( I really want it though) as much as having a very stout bottom end to handle the nitrous.Help me out guys
_______
I plan on using the stock crank when I do my build up later in the summer (if all goes well)
Until i split it in half, i don't see a problem with it
I have a 382 Lunati stroker, and I am sure it will handle 300 shot. I have tried 100 shot on it, and I have to tell you that may SS pulls very very hard! So, about the stock crank, make more research just to be safe and save $$$$.
I am running a 230/227 cam in my car. It pulled 450 rwhp and 447 rwtq with a rich A/F (about 11.6-11.8 on the dyno). The cam is a very good daily driver with no surging or hesitation what so ever. It idles very excellent too. It drives like a stock would, but a bit louder because of the exhaust. I think the idle and sound is as same as a 220/220 on a stock CI. I know a guy who made about 480 rwhp with a 240 cam (as I was told). If you want more of a rumble and a cam’d setup, go with a bigger cam. 230/237 will work nice!! I would like to put a 230/237 cam in my car, but I drive it about 30 miles a day and what I have works until I get a second car!
Good luck!
If you are ever in Austin let me know and I will show you what I have.

I would match this motor to the best heads that you can afford to buy and professionally matched with the most aggressive cam you can choose that also loves the N20 (gas).
This engine with the best forged internals should be fairly well bullet proof and ready for some big shots of N20 and 10.0 to high 9 second time slips!
Otherwise, talk to some of the top LS1 engine builders about using your stock crank and off setting it, which i believe could put you close to around 390 cubes or so, but my vote is for a forged 4.00 stroker crank with 4.030 bore and 408 cubes, which would give you the ultimate in N/A Power, Dependability/Reliability and of course HUGE POWER on the Laughing Gas!
As we speak MTI is building me a 427 6.0 liter ironblock, which will stay naturally aspirated and will utilize a 4.060 overbore and 4.125 crank. I am going with MTI's most aggressive hyd. S1 cam with specs of 244/244, with a .612 lift and 112lsa.
Best of Luck,
MTI 427 C5 Roadster

4.060 x 3.72 = 385
ARE is building me a 393 All Bore. 4.100 x 3.72 = 393. So the crank will be offset ground. I plan to spray the hell out of it. I'm told that the crank will handle it. We shall see. I am having the main studs beefed up also.
If you can afford the $$, then save and get a 4.0 crank. The 408 would be nice for a hugs dose of nitrous. I think the stock crank is stronger than people give it credit for. It's the one thing that you never hear people complaing that they broke.
Give ARE a call, I'm sure they can help you out.
