Default PCV System?

Can I just go ahead and remove all the hoses and use breathers of some sort? How about the vacume lines off the back of the intake? I am trying to lose the rats nest of hoses during my build. Is there anywhere with a good write up? Thanks

id say use the search, but this new search sucks a$$ so: if you eliminate the pcv system you will need to change your oil every couple hundred miles. your engine will have no way to expel the acidic gases in your engine. they will mix with your oil and could start doing damage. you could do the ls6 valley cover and it would get some hoses out of the way.

not true at all. You can remove the pvc, but you will have to have a breather on valve covers. Also you will have to leave the hose from the TB to the valve cover connected. That is your fresh air return. The other option is to run the z06 valley tray. This will run the pvc from under the intake.

The point the other guy was trying to say is, you want to pull a vacuum on your crank case. A pvc setup does this for you. I personally put the z06 valley tray on and it cleaned up the motor nicely.

As the other guys are stating.. you can remove the PCV system and add breathers.. but that can be messing with all of the oil and gases being pushed out and all over your engine bay. Update your PCV system with then new PCV Valley cover system and you will be removing all of those hoses and getting a better PCV System.

You will need the vaccum hose and setup in the rear of the intake, they are needed for your vaccum brakes and the heater/ac controls. (unless you do away with heater and AC)

Two, it does not pull a vacuum. However, if you do run a filter, it will vent it to the atmosphere. No, you do not want those gases to stay in the block. I also run an AMW catch can to catch most vapors before they enter the intake, which is a downfall to the PVC system.

You'll have to run a breather on each valve cover.

Just get the Ls6 valley cover like the other said. Its very easy.

Best place to get one of these?..And can I eliminate the big hose that runs from my lid to the back or no? EGR I guess?...If I can get rid of that stuff...what do I do with the harness plug and vacume lines off that sensor? NonEGR LTs are going on, so I wont have anything going to the large hose on each side anyway...whats the best way to deal with this mess of hose?..

I paid $60 for the valley cover at the dealer. Thats with new gasket and bolts. I have the a hose going to the valvecover to the throttle body, and a hose from the valley cover to the intake. Everything else is caped off on the valve covers (98) and the throttle body as I did the throllte body by pass.

You are mixing up EGR, AIR with the PVC. You can get the valley tray from GM. About 100 dollars. The hose from your air box is the air system. It pulls fresh air in the exhaust to heat up the cats. This can be removed if you run a ORY.

I know that dealers have different pricing, but saying the cover is $100 is being on the safe side. Thats the most you can expect to spend.

Ok..speaking in terms of the air system that includes the hoses going from my lid to behind intake and to each manifold. In line behind the intake there is a big sensor unit with a plug in and some vac line on it. Can I just unplug this thing and remove/cap off. Will it throw codes not being plugged in?

If you're refering to the intake manifold I think you'll want to keep those. The sensor is the MAP sensor, the vac line is for the AC and the other hose is for the brake booster. If you switch to an ls6 pcv setup and remove your AIR system it will take care of 90% of the crap behind the intake.
