I am changing the clutch and the rear main was leaking so I pulled the plate off but putting it back on with the new seal it seems like I need to lower the back of the oil pan to ge it to line up right. Am I right or is there another trick to it ? also , do you have to use a special alignment tool or can it be done with eyeballing it?

Did you take the rear cover off? I will be kinda hard to reinstall the cover with the seal still in place. There is a special tool to align the cover up..Don't take the pan loose or off
If you need some help, let me know.

Thanks Allan. So you put the seal in with the cover on? I did pull the cover off but i did not loosen the oilpan bolts. If I still need the tool then I may take you up on some help. Are you going to be at the shop today(saterday)?

Chad, I got your email. Yes, put the seal on with the cover in place. There should be no need to loosen the oil pan bolts. The seal is a tight fit, so be careful with it.
The proper GM tools make it much easier to install the seal and align the rear cover. Give me a call on my cell tomorrow if you need some help.
