Default 111lsa cam idle..

Ok, my car should be back from having my cam installed either Tuesday or Wednesday. What I dont understand is what I can expect the car to sound like.. I heard a LT1 motor with an identicle cam that sounded awesome. I know that the lsa has alot to do with idle and lope, but does duration and other factors, such as the tune, make a difference?? Or, is a cam just what it is??

Thanks,
Ryan

Overlap determines how much lope you have. A lot of people get caught up in the LSA only. Yes it determines to a small degree, but like I said, overlap has a greater impact on lope. BTW, the 230/236 sounds very nice. You won't be able to tell anyone's it's stock .

For what it's worth, I have the TR230/224. It too is on a 111 and has 5 degrees of overlap. It sounds very nice and has a definite lope to it, but there are cams that lope a lot harder.

It looks like we are running close to the same setup.. How you like that converter with the cam? The guys who are doing my install said that my TCI may be to tight for the cam. The actual specs are 230/236 612"/607" 111+2. And BTW, those are some pretty nice numbers on cam only!

Go to the A4 section, there are several comments from me concerning this converter and a couple videos from my runs. In short, I absolutely love it. Best converter I've ever had and the last converter I'll ever buy. It's a monster.

I agree completely with 99Hawk262 about the LSA dictating the lope and idle charateristics, but it shouldn't be the main selling point of a cam. Also, the tune will have it's fare share of the idle quality. Once properly tuned, the choppiness will not be as noticeable, as when you first fire it up.

As far as the converter, what 99Hawk262 has is a very good match to the size cam you are getting. I will be getting a PT4200 to compliment my F13 in the future.

LT1's exhaust sound is indeed awesome, but a LS1 is no match for that sound.

Your car sounds pretty good with that cam. Did you flycutt? How big of a stall did you go with?

No flycutting. I have a 3500 stall in there right now. Does the job very well and still very streetable. I know more is left on the table with the "smaller" stall that I have, but the street manners are nice for now. When I need a new converter I'll get a bigger one.

The reason I asked, I would like to do a cam next year. I'm not too concerned about how streetable it is, I have a truck. Have you had it to the track yet or dynoed it?

390 to the wheels through unlocked converter. 12.0@114mph just a few weeks ago with 1.8 60' on street tires.

If I did my math correct, then your cam should have 11 degrees of overlap.. That will make for a pretty good lope.

My LQ4 doesn't sound like an LT1, and it is an iron block. The LT1 sound has more to do with the different firing order.
