Default What cam shaft?

Custom grind Thunder 230/230 .612/.604 111 +3

LGmotorsports G5x3 or G5x4

TSP Magic Stick 3

Custom grind 231/240, .643/.608 112+4

Setup listed in SIG. Im looking for a new cam because the cam I have has a 50 degree IVC bottom dead center (I believe). Which as people have stated "The late IVC of your T2 makes your dynamic compression low and your low end soft."

Im looking for something that will give me more compression and more power throughout. I dont know if I should go for something bigger, or something in between like Thunder recommended.

Suggestions?

Any input appreciated.

Thanks

Well ur guna have to take into consideration, that with the 5.3 heads it limits u on the big cam setups because of ur piston to valve clearance,i had a friend that had the same 5.3s and he had a f14 from futral, and it ran like hell, but every car performs diff, just tryin to help, goodluck!

yes.. less low end, but if i bring the lsa down itll pull harder throughout the RPM range.. 1st cam has 8 degrees overlap, lgmotorsports i dunno, ms3 has 4-5 ish, and the last custom one has 12.... with the added overlap should help my overall compression a bit more, and also the intake closing point on all those cams is significantly lower than 50degrees which will help improve my compression... compression is a necessity with the heads im running.

I'm trying an F14 on 5.3 heads with 2.02" intakes and as of tonight it doesn't look like it's going to clear. I may have a new F14 for sale by tomorrow...

I really wanted an F14 too, but I sure don't feel like flycutting my pistons while they're in the motor and the motor is in the car.

I guess that's why high compression big cam engines are big buck$$. It takes the the right pistons and ground up design considerations.

Now I was told by many that they've ran an F14 with similar heads so it might work for you...I've slao heard from a few that it didn't work and I might be in that group. I knew that going in though so nothing ventured nothing gained. I'm just glad we're taking the time to measure.

Hello everyone, first time logging in and as green as Kentucky grass.

I have a 1998 LS Z28 Thats pretty much bone stock. it has the flomaster exhaust w/ cat back, TCI3000 Convrtr and Progrsiv NOS 75-125 HP, Mickey Thomp Et Street 255/16/50 , I won 2nd place trophey with 1/8 Tack time of 8.272, 60' @ 2.045, RT @ 0.760 and Trap mph @ 87.2 and 75hp nos direct hit, Progressive box would not work.

I tried the tires@ different preasures 22psi down to 9.5 and verry aggressive burnouts
during my launch, I heard and felt a lot of tire squak.

Now thinking of Cam/ Headers, Ypipe, 15" rims w/ full slick and tuning software.

Please help this cow to find the grass.... I will continue to read meamwhile

Thx...

fastcayman.

is your t2 on a 114+0?
then yes sorry that only has 5* overlap

both thoes custom cams look great. i dont think the 2nd one will fit w/o fly cutting.

i pick the 232/232 111+3 out of the ones you listed

IVC = (Int Dur/2) + ICL - 180 Overlap = (Int Dur + Ex Dur)/2 - (LSA*2)

TSP T2V2
232/234 114+0 IVC = 50* Overlap = 5*

Custom grind Thunder
230/230 111+3 IVC = 43* Overlap = 8*

LGmotorsports G5x3
234/242 112+4 IVC = 45* Overlap = 14*

TSP Magic Stick 3
237/242 112+4 IVC = 46.5* Overlap = 15.5*

Custom grind
231/240 112+4 IVC = 43.5* Overlap = 11.5*

Of all these, the custom grinds are quite similar. You could also to the Thunder TRak cam or TSP T2V3:
231/234 111+3 IVC = 43.5* Overlap = 10.5*

Personally, I'm not a big fan of all that advance, so the other way to get the IVC & Overlap you desire is with a tighter LSA and less duration:
228/232 109+0 IVC = 43* Overlap = 12*

That cam should pull the midrange hard, keeping the trend you established for IVC and the overlap of the larger cam selections that may not otherwise clear. Of course, you should check any of them to be sure!

Why not just have your heads milled 0.030 to raise DCR?
