If the valves have hit the pistons..

Will the spots where the valves hit the pistons create hot spots? Seems like that sounds right to me anyway.

it will leave marks and could, or create raised edges or even crackt he piston if they hit hard enough. Now if its a very very light tap, i doubt it

A guy with a BBC had almost every valve bent b/c the cam was out of timing. Bent valves and pushrods everwhere. I'm assuming the pistons have some decent marks in them, probably worse than just floating the valves once at a high rpm.

I started my car with the cam timing way off (don't ask me how, because I have no fn clue), made smiley faces on my pistons on all the exhaust valves and bent the valves, but it runs great.

if you have marks i would just smooth them out so there are no sharp areas

well all those high performance guys that flycutt don't know crap... haha.. nope unless your gonna run a 350shot of nitrous... then there shouldnt be a problem...
