I am looking at getting a 228/232 cam with a 112lsa and a 2800-3200 stall and i was wondering what all would i need to complete this upgrade and any thoughts on what kinds of parts I should go with.

*dont forget the tranny cooler!* its a must

*w/ the cam get the kit if availible w/ matching springs retainers pushrods, seals ect...*

i daily drive a vig3600, which is like a 4000 for everyone else, and it feels great. sometimes i wish i had gone bigger. if you stick something around 2800-3200 you will be kicking yourself down the road.

i got a yank ss 3600 and i wish i would have went with a 4000. dont get me wrong that stall is amazing but i was scared when gettin it that i would go to big but instead it was too small. i say with that cam go with a yank ss 3600-4000 and youll be more than happy. i cant even tell my car has a stall until i stall it up or floor it

Optimum stall speed for a ~230 duration cam is 4000-4400. Using that formula, I went with a 4400 stall with my 230/224 cam. A 3200 would definitely be on the small side for you. General rule of thumb is pick your poison and go a size bigger. Otherwise you'll be in the same boat as all the folks who posted above. Several said they wish they'd gone bigger.

FWIW, after researching on here and being told to go a size bigger, I started with a Yank ST3500 since I wanted a 3200. Wasn't even close to what I really wanted. So I upgraded as soon as I could to a Yank SS4000. I liked it quite a bit better than the 3500, but I still wanted more. Now I run the PT4400 and I believe it is a perfect match for my cam. Don't be afraid of the bigger stalls. I DD mine with 3.23's and it isn't too bad. That being said, I will be getting gears soon!

Hey thanks for replying to my PM.

I would go with a bigger stall than 3000. When I first started looking into converters I thought about that, then got talked into a ss3600 and now ss4000. Id say go big and be done with it. Good think im ordering mine tomorrow or id probably be talked into get a PT4000

go with 3000 stall or bigger...i have the 3000 and it seems just right for the street, being a tci its a bit looser than other converters such as yank. But if ur gonna go with yank go with the 3600...there not as bad to drive as you think, its basically the same as stock until u really get on it. takes a few hundred more rpms to get it going and thats it, no big deal

wow thanks alot for all the info guys you all have been really helpfull but there is 1 more question i have to ask.... is a stock 4l60e gonna hold a 3600-4000 stall ?

The stock 4L60E can handle a 3600-4000 stall no problem as long as you remember one thing. The biggest tranny cooler you can find. I have a 24,000 GV cooler and many others are running 30,000.

But you are not just adding a stall. You're also adding a cam. Adding a stall + cam can and will shorten the life of your transmission. Some last a long time while others do not. But that's the nature of the modding beast.

You could just get the cam/stall and then start a lvl 2 / stage 3 4L60E fund. Put away $25 out of every check and hopefully by the time you need a new tranny the money will be there and then some.
