Default Comp Cams XR265HR

Has anyone had expirience with this cam? And if so, what are your thoughts on it? And also, is this cam good for a daily driver?

Yes,
I've run the cam before (54-412-11) and it is an excellent cam for a daily driver. It has tremendous torque in a range (2,800 to 5,400 RPM's) where you can really use it.

A couple of blokes over here have run that stick and it produces good results in a street car.

I reckon the 54-424-11, which has higher lift would be a better choice, perhaps on a 112lsa.

Cheers,

Macca

A 112 or 113 LSA would make the cam pull a bit harder in the mid-range of the torque band and it would probably not have quite as much upper RPM HP. Unless you are running well ported heads, the slightly higher lift and faster ramp rate of the 54-424-11 probably won't yield much more (if any) torque/HP than the 54-412-11.

My main caution in a daily driver is not to over-cam the car. There are a number of threads on this subject by folks who have been there and regret the experience.

I have been running the XE265HR cam because it is similar to the 02 Z06 cam and I wanted to be sure I would be able to pass California’s smog test. This cam makes 390 rwhp with stock LS6 heads and QTP longtubes. I recently passed smog with flying colors and wish I had gone bigger. I intend to upgrade to the 224/230 .581/.588 114 XER273HR.

I've got the 212/218 .522/.529 version, which has long term reliability using inexpensive LS6 springs. Great DD cam with a Yank SS3200.

Hey Gary Z,

When you're ready to swap out that Xr265, I'll take it. I live over in Lafayette and have been looking for that cam for my Sierra Denali 6.0L.

thanks, Rick

Wanted to run the same XE265HR cam here in California. Did you install it on the stock straight up at 114 or at 112 like some are doing... Also what did you do as far as tune goes... any other engine mods??? how did it affect your mileage??? Thanks, would be a big help to me...

It would be good for a DD, but you could go with a 224/224 and still have near stock drivability while making great power/torque.

Actually, I want to stick it in a truck with a 5.3... Curious to see what else he did for his combo though...

224/224 is pretty much cam for a 5.3, but the other cams mentioned here are great suggestions.
