Default How to remove rocker bolts?

I'm trying to install some new Comp Cams Pro Mag 1.85 roller rockers. Can't get the rocker bolts out to take off the stock rockers. The bolts are VERY TIGHT! This is only a 8mm bolt that is supposed to be torqued to 22 lb/ft. What gives? I can't get any of them to budge. What tool should I use? Tried a 1/4" rachet, no go. Tried a 3/8" air gun, no go. What about a hand impact or 1/2" air gun? Are these things locktited in or what cause Comp Cams told me NOT to use locktite during the installation? How much force is needed? I don't want to strip the threads in the aluminum head with the steel rocker bolts.

I broke 2 craftsman sockets before I got all of them out! Had to use a cheater on the ratchet and they make a loud pop when they do break loose. Hope you ate your wheaties today.

They have a locktight or something on the screw head.I use a 8mm wrench and little breaker bar to break the seal, then they spin right out.

i have actually broken a few of my sockets doing this too. a crack down one of the sides. i guess its cause of the pressure.

After my last cam install, both my 8mm and 10mm sockets went back to Sears for new ones.

Got the bolts out! Applied some PB Blaster penetrating fluid and let it soak for a few hours. I don't know if it helped or not, but when I tried removing the bolts again they all broke loose. I used a 8mm 6 point socket and a 3/8 breaker bar. Kept it very straight as I applied steady pressure. You know something good has happened when you hear that popping sound. The bolts have those built in flat washer on the head. GM puts locktite on the flat washer just like they do on the crank pulley bolt. That's why they are so hard to break loose. Once they break free you can unsscrew them with your fingers. Thanks for the help! I'm going to try to install the 918 springs and Comp Cams 1.85 roller rockers tommorrow unless we get flooded by Tropical Storm Bill. It's hurricane season along the Gulf Coast right now so I may have to wait till mother nature says she's done.

If you can FIND one (my local Sears Hardware is always out of 'em) get a 3/8" drive 6-point 8mm socket. Put your cheater bar on it, or a long ratchet. Make sure you hold the socket PERFECTLY vertical on the bolt, and apply firm EVEN pressure. They will pop loose, and you shouldn't break sockets.
