The cam sensor is mounted in the LS2 front cover and the LS1 is not. And you will need a LS2 Valley cover also. The rear covers are the same

I believe that it's more desirable to run an LS2 over an LS1 because of the 4 inch bores. You can run bigger valves than on a 3.9X inch LS1. There are other benefits too, like siamesed cylinder walls, among others. I'd be looking at running an LS2 block over redoing my LS1.

The lq4 blocks are cast iron and the LS2 blocks are aluminum, I have the LS2 block in my car now and there's no hole in the rear of the block for the cam sensor and there no place in the valley to bolt the knock sensor you will haft to move the knock sensors to the side of the block in front of the motor mounts, and the LS2 valley cover has the oil pressure sender mounted on it, not like the LS1 that screws in the block.I have my LS2 bored 4.030" You can see it in my sig.
