I'm going to guess without seeing it that the scratch in the cylinder is a crack in the liner. I had this happen on an old big block and it cracked the cylinder and those are thick. It also bent the rod.
But then again it was running about 5000rpm when it happened and looked way worse than that pic.
I had a shop put a liner in it and it was like new again.

I did that on my mustang. I know have a hatred for modular motors. I broke 8 valves and they implanted themselves in the pistons. I probably would have only picked up like 8 rwhp anyway. So glad I got away from that car.

This sort of thing doesn't have to happen due to an improper disassembly. There are enough threads(hundreds probably thousands by this time) on this subject that a person can get all the information they need for a proper assembly for free. If they can't find it they can ask a specific question ahead of time instead of making a mistake like this that results in the destruction of the top end and quite possibly the bottom end too including the block.

Agreed, but there isn't any contact information posted so it's not really illegal yet.

However if I was this "Nick" dude who's so great, I wouldn't want a dumbass doing my advertising for me in some round about retarded indirect way that everyone is going to notice is some hack advertisement. Thats just me though.

I thought the cam dowel pin ensures you can't line it up wrong?

That really sucks man. I hope Nick tells you to double check what "dot to dot" is next time. Tell him to build you a forged engine then throw some boost on it...

There is a lot of old small shops and automotive shops in south river. I don't remember hearing about any machine shops there though, same token, I tend to stay away from south river in certain areas.

If you don't have the dots on the timing gears lined up correctly, it doesn't matter about the dowel pin.

You could have fit the fly AND the fly's nad between the valve and the piston if you just would have lined the dot's up.

And yes you are right all your'e fault. I would say you should get a junk yard ls1 and try youre hand at that before jumping into a new lq9 with l92 head's
