I'm doing the 224 also, not replaceing either the pump or the chain...i will the chain if it is loose when we get in there. can pick up one local somewhere. my car has only 15K mostly highway miles.

Cal: still anotehr month + away...
Hawk, I'm installing mine right now! It's not that hard, but there's a hell of a lot to do! BTW, I've got all the springs in and now and didn't use any air; it's pretty easy to just turn the crank until it's right between the last exhaust and the next intake to find TDC.

Also they say the cam is good for 6600. Yes it can rev to 6600 and still make decent power. But not that it peaks at 6600. You will want to shift more like 6500.
Maybe Thunder should revise their web site if best et requires shifting less than 6600. If their web site is correct then you need to take the engine to 6600 for best et or 6800 or so if they are advertising peak hp.

If this cam has 4 degrees of advance ground into it I don't believe 6600 is correct either. But this is what they advertise.

I always did think those rpm specs were a little missleading. If you look at the dyno curve on this cam it's pretty flat all the way from 6,000 to about 6,800 rpm.

Also jaywoo thanks for the tips, I'll keep this post in mind when the time comes to intall my cam as well. BTW-Whose legs are those underneath the car

That's my wife. She fit in the front of the car easier then I did, so she's the one who actually did the cam and oil pump swap.

I can shift faster than you.

The TR224/112 has 4 degrees advance ground in. It makes peak power ~6100-6200. Guys looking for the best ET/MPH shift this cam around 6500-6600. When I was using the TR224/114, I found 6600 to be the ideal shift point.

As for the oil pump/timing chain, I would just re-use the stock pieces.
