Default GM #12498544 Head gasket question??

I have this set which says 2002-2004.. I was going to put them on my 002 sortblock but have to wait due to a problem wit the block.. My question is why cant I use these on my 98 block? I will be installing 2002 Ls6 (243) heads so places say yes but wanted to double check before I bolt them down... Thanks..... The part number on them is #12498544

You can use them if you are running 243's on a 98+ block. The problem lies in the stock 98 heads. They have a tab on them that the newer gaskets do not have a provision for and can cause leaks. If you are swapping heads you can upgrade to the later (mush easier to clean when removing the head) gaskets.
