Heads/cam questions
Has anyone here used the LS-6 heads? What cam did you choose and why? Results? I'm not looking for the most hp from this set up but want a lumpy cam with these heads for a M6 car that is my daily driver. Will add headers at the same time to go with my GMMG. All suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Heads/cam questions
I went from LS1 heads to MTI LS6 heads. Why? the LS6 heads are superior... I picked up three MPH in the 1/4 racing much worse weather.
I went from the C2 to the X1 cam at the same time.
127 trap speeds in a 346 street car is pretty fun.

Re: Heads/cam questions
Wow, you guys are going for the extreme! I guess to cut to the chase, SDPC has assembled stock LS6 heads that I would like to use and get the Hot cam to go with it. I would get the LS6 cam but really want that lumpy idle. Would this cam and heads setup work and pass the sniffer test? I would do tuning also.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Heads/cam questions
The hot cam will not pass the sniffer. As for the LS6 heads, the are only marginally better than the 241 casting LS1 heads. The have better valves and slightly better springs but they are not worht the money. For $1295 and no core you can get PAtriot heads from Tezas Speed. The flow 296 intake vs the Ls6 255-260 and 220 to 235 exhaust pendinding which head you get. I would choose there 5,3 head with some cleaning on the exhaust side to raise the exhaaust to 235 and lower the compression from 11.0 to 1 to 10.6 to one. These are are not the best heads on the market but the are the best bang for the buck and they will out perform the LS6 head. they come with Titanium retainer and double springs. The hot cam won't pass smog and the idle quality sucks. Go with a someting 222/222 duration or smaller on a 112 or 114 lsa to pass smog. Reverse spit cams tend to idle better and make more usable power vs conventional split cam like the hot cam. Thunder has a nice cam that is reverse split. 227/224. With great tuning it might pass. To be sure the C1 cam should pass. Its a 221 or 222 duration single pattern cam. It should outperform the hot cam. Look intos some of the cams Texas Speed sell. They use XE-R lobes that are more aggressive and will make more power while keeping the rpms down under 6500

Re: Heads/cam questions
a Set of Ported 241's from one of our sponsors will perform damn near as good as the 243's for a lot less price ON A 346!!! Now if you plan on going Big bore in the future then the 243's are the only way to go.
I've got the same package as Raugh and trap just a few mph slower than him with my 241 castings and X1..but I'm probably 250lbs heavier than he is too....my 1/4 times are slower by .3 or so due to the 323 gears and heavier car.

Thanks for all the input! I feel some what educated and confused to. I thought that the hot cam being somewhat mild to be made to pass the sniffer. I wanted it for the lopey sound. Is there one that will pass the sniffer and give me that lope that I love so much? Please keep the info coming. Nothing I hate more than wasting time and money.
