Headers for lowered ss
I know there alot of post on headers but as i read none answer the ?'s i have. I want good perfomance quality fitment which means ground clearence with lowered car and also i want them w a Y pipe that will bolt up to my loudmouth w my factory center exhaust i dont wanna hafta fabricate stuff. I want a good flowing header with good build quality and they hafta be stainless. i dont want bs stuff the car is very heavily optioned car and i want everything to fit as close to factory as possible i dont want y pipe banging the floor or the headers to hit the steering shaft. thanks for giving me your time guys. Performance is important to. hopefull i will be able to do h/c and dont wanna hafta get a different set of headers i want all around that will be good when i do heads and cam but will be good on my stock motor.
My car is lowered and I picked up some Mac mid length headers and an off road SLP Y pipe that was all jet hot coated. The fitment is awesome with the headers and they look amazing and sound great.
They are very affordable but the Y pipe does bang on the drivers side which I took care of with a little rigging. If you do install headers go ahead and install poly motor mounts so with whatever headers you get you dont have to worry about the banging y pipe.
I wish I would have done the motor mounts since they were so easy to get too when the headers were off.
Also the Y pipe was a little too small for the factory I pipe but from what I read that happens too pretty much any aftermarket Y set up, I just took it down to a muffler shop and for $25 had them weld the Y to the I pipe.
Of course I probably would have went long tube but for the $250 I paid for the headers off Craigslist I couldnt complain.
Good luck on whatever you decide to get and im sure other people will chime in with lowered cars with different set ups.

Kooks and Kooks Y-pipe have some of the best clearence for a Y-pipe setup. No issues with header contact and my Y-pipe doesn't bang, and I'm still on the stock motor mounts. And both pieces are stainless.
thanks i was wanting mac mid lengths but i cant find them online where did you get urs. my buddy had some on his 00 ss and they were great. i thought of kooks to where are the best place to buy both? thanks guys

If you are going to do headers go with long tubes. There are lots of manufacturers for them now. Kooks, American Racing are going to be the more expensive brands. Brands like Pacesetter, Hooker, Eddlebrock are going to be about half the cost. The more expensive brands are going to have better fit, make more power and be made of stainless so they do not rust. The cheaper brands are still going to make more power over Macs.
I am lowered 1", and i am running Pacesetter LT's, pacesetter ORY
no ground clearance issues so far.
its a cutout thread but it shows you the ground clearance.
also Pacesetters fit "PERFECT" no problems.

From what I hear ARH and their Y are the best fitting top line SS header system out there now. I have QTP's and their crappy y waiting to go on so we'll see. May have to fab a custom Y if all the QTP horror stories I am reading are true. I let you know when I get the rest of my stuff in and start swappin parts.
