Well like all of these guys have told you, the motors were exactly the same. GM attributes the extra HP to the reduced back pressure from the different cat backs on the SS's and the WS6's and the cold air induction from the different hoods and air boxes. Would it amount to 15 hp, probably not, but once you start to mod none of that stuff matters anyway. Of course most chassis dyno's are done with the hoods open so any advantage seen from the cooler air intakes are negated. In fact there was a test done years ago on a chassis dyno with the engines at temp and the hoods closed and the WS6's made just a tad more HP than the SS with the hoods closed, but slightly less when the hoods were opened. They attributed this to the fact that the SS was having to bring the air back around over the engine back to the T/B which was causing higher IAT temps even though they were both dyno'd in the same room with identical temps.

Heh. All LS1s are the same HP. You think some SS/WS6 owners get upset hearing that? You should hear some of us Corvette guys!
