A follow up:

If you are really wanting to keep the power band (peak) around 6000rpm's, just stick to the idea of keeping your IVC around 40-42.

My 228/232 110+2 cam (XER lobes) is on an IVC of 42, HP peaks right at 6000rpm (holds to 6400).

However that is with 10 degrees of overlap. While the car was quite "easy" to tune, in a previous post most experts/readers agreed that if you can keep overlap to 6 degree or less and still make power you really have a nice streetable combination.

Its an intriguing idea to mix some differing lobes to attain your goal.

Perhaps keep those fundamentals in mind (I know it just makes it harder) when choosing.

The smaller 224 XFI lobe closes the valve at the seat sooner, trapping more air in the cylinder when velocity is low, and boosting torque output in the lower RPM's. It still has the same duration at .200" lift though, so cylinder filling is just as complete. That cam will idle smoother and pull just as hard as the 228 XE-R cam through the rev range.
I couldn't explain it better myself. That is exactly one of the reason I spec these cams like that.
Lope or "sound" is relative to exhaust and idle speed. Lower idle and open exhast will get enough lope to let everyone know you mean business, yet this cam is very streetable, gas efficient and will make same power as higher duaration cams like a 228/230 range.

Patrick G. prescribed a 226/226 .609/.600 110+2 lsa for me and i told him that i dont run it past 6k and i wanted good low and midrange power. Might be something to look into. I currently have the cam in the garage NEXT to the car so i cant give you any number or dyno curve yet. Cant wait til spring!!!!

Oh yea and I told him i wanted a good lope and good drive-ability haha

Def. listen to Predator-Z or Patrick G. they know their cams

also maybe alittle more lift on the xfi would help alittle more maybe

228/232 .605/.590 111+2 lsa
228/232 .605/.590 110+2 lsa

228/232 .605/.600 111+2 lsa
228/232 .605/.600 110+2 lsa

hopefully anyone of these with all the xfi lobes will still have a nice chop to them at idle.

seem like the ticket here, im looking at 228/232's myself either going to go with stock LS2/LS6 heads or Stage 2's.. dunno yet and most likely a 90/90.. would like to shift at like 6.1-6.4 to keep it safe

any more thoughts, not quite ready to make the move on one but still saving, etc..

1. 228/232 .595/.590 111+2 lsa
2. 228/232 .595/.590 110+2 lsa

3. 228/232 .595/.580 111+2 lsa
4. 228/232 .595/.580 110+2 lsa

5. 228/232 .605/.600 111+2 lsa
6. 228/232 .605/.600 110+2 lsa

as long as these will give me the mid range 3000-6100 rpm or so, I will be most happy.
I am leaning mostly towards 1.

thanks for you time.

I'm running the 228/232 .640/595 110 +1. Numbers below (Pull was though the stock catback and stopped @ 6K) had a vacuum leak, so the tune wasn't perfect. I'm sure with a 90/90 and an open cutout i could have seen 440 if not better. Sick mid range, and pulls hard to 6500 redline. I couldn't be happier.

Edit- BTW the intake is a LSK lobe, i had to get the caddy high RPM lifters and PRC high lift springs to handle it.

all of thoes ar so close, you would never know the differance. and after they are ground they are never a 228.0/232.0 .605/.600 110.0 +2.0
if you ordered cam number 6 it could end up like this
229.3/234.1 .612/.597 111.2 +1.9
or
227.8/232.8 /.602/.614 110.8 +1.9

thanks for the input and yeah they are so close might as well roll a pair of dice

228/232 .605/.600 110+2 lsa

228/232 .600/.604 110+2 lsa

either way I think its going to be something like that.

Since you have full exhaust and basically stock intake with the LS6 I would go with a .605 on the intake and .600 on the exhaust just to give it a little more help on that side to breath....just a though

that will do what you ask and more, so much midrange trq you'll swear you have a stroker.

This is a custom Comp Cam XFI/XE-R lobes
how would that compare to a 228/232 110+2

That is the cam I want to get for my car.

If you want bigger then this is what I recommend:

230/230 .612/.595 111+4 LSA

This is a XFI/XE-R

I've had a A4 cam only with bolt ons and stall do 422rwhp/393rwtq with that cam in.

What's a good shifting point for this cam? What stall and gears were you running?

Quick Reply: I would like to get some more thoughts on the 228/232 .588/.595 cam please?
