Default Oil Pump???

Im doin a cam swap on my truck and when i took the oil pump off i noticed there wasnt a gasket between the pump and block, is this the way it should be or should there be a gasket there? Also when i install the pump back on is there special way of putting it on besides lining it up with the splines?

There is no gasket behind the pump. Look in the pump pickup and you will find a blue oring. That is the seal. Be super careful not to push it out or pinch it when you reinstall the pump to tube.

K thanks! I cant beleive there isnt a gasket on the block, but then again there isnt one on the old sbc either... I guess i seals via the machined surfaces then.
