Is this something like hihg temp silicone or threadlock? I am just replacing them and figure I should probably do it the way its supposed to be done instead of just puttin em back in. Anyone that knows I would appreciate it, thanks.

I've never seen red stuff on the rocker bolts from the factory. It sounds like someone put some RTV on them. Does your car have ported heads? If so, just get some Permatex Thread Sealer from an auto supply and put them back in.

Yeah - Mine had this two. Rockers and Bolts off a set of heads from a '97 C5 that i used for my ported 243s i installed. There's like a red o-ring around the base of the bolt... not sure what it's for, i just reinstalled the bolt as is....

I have always wondered what that stuff was myself. It obviously is not needed because I cleaned it off with a wire brush three cam changes ago with no sign of anything going wrong..anyone know what that **** is ..

It probably is some kind of thread lock to keep the bolts from backing out or something. They are only torqued at 22ft/lbs and take a bit of strength to get em out. I just reinstalled em without worrying about it. No problems yet.
