Default Custom cam for me??

Should I go custom or is there something off the shelf for me? I have searched and searched for cams, looking through dyno charts and reading reviews and thought I had it narrowed to between the 228r and Torquer V2(232/234). Then you search a specific cam and find bad stuff about it, like the "torquer" having no torque. And now days the 228r being called a small cam. Then I start reading tech articles with the cam pro's, pat G and PredatorZ and others talking about all the ivo, ivc, icl, evc, 108,110,112lsa's and +2's +4's advance and other crap that I know what means but no idea what effect it has on the engine or powerband. Seems like I have read the same amount of threads about how killer reverse split cams are, and then threads on how engines need a bigger exhaust lobe due to ineffecient exhaust ports, confusing. But reading that makes me realize there is alot more to it than just picking the right size at .50 numbers. Wow cams are technical. Any suggestions cam guys?

01, 6spd, lid, Hooker LT's, 3" tru duals. Ported TB and UD pulley will come with cam swap. Will have S60 or 9" with 4.10s. Doubt I will ever do heads, if I do it will be a couple years from now. It is a daily driver for now with maybe seeing track time 5-6 times a year but will take on anything that rolls up and wants some on the street (providing it does not make for a dangerous situation) I dont mind driving a racecar to work so long as it stays running, rompity romp idle is fine (actually preferred) but must be tunable without SD, max 6500 maybe 6600 shift point. Willing to give up 10rwhp for decent gains "under the curve".

I guess if I dont get some good ideas from this I will try to find Pat G or someone like him to do me one. Thanks in advance

You will see better results with custom grind camshaft. Get in contact with Patrick G. He can spec a cam tailored to your needs.

I really like one PredatorZ reccomended on another thread.

230/238 .612/.608 111+2 XFI intake XER exhaust. What would the characteristics of this cam be?

that cam should be a mid range to top end monster with a relatively strong bottom end...im going with a very similar setup...231/238 .617 .598 113+2 lsa and from what i understand if you tighten up the lsa some it should pull some more in the middle.

but good luck anyhow and definately pick the brains of patrick g and predator z they can get you the cam you need

I went with a custom grind comp cam 232/232@110 in a daily driver and love it.

Excellent mid range and top end.

And it is a damn sexy sounding cam.

You mean as a 109 or 110+2?

230/232 110+2 That's what pat g. speced for me. Good under the range power and it carries all the way to redline. If you go to the dyno section and run a search for patrick you can look at the dyno sheet.

That is a very nice curve! Peak is about where I want mine and you have awesome torque. I would be happy with those results.

That cam produced some big numbers for a cam only A4.How would this cam work with a set of AFR 205's or TFS 215's and how much could you or how much would you mill them before having to flycut?

hey guys that is my cam in my car, it runs really great with awesome street manners no bucking or surging at all, pulls like a freight train too...once i get up to speed it almost pulls itself with all the torque...It is the perfect cam for a DD that wants huge ms3 peak power but also have amazing under the curve performance...let me know if you got any questions...here is a link to the idle clip...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpU-CC5OOM0

also milling can not be done without flycutting... intake clearance is around .086...exhaust has plently clearance...

this cam needs to be the new ms3 for DD's...it has the best of both worlds

it is a 111+4 but when i put the cam in it was a little to close for my liking with .072 PTV on the intake so i retarded it 2* so it is on a 109ICL+2 or 111+2 LSA...this gave me more clearance on the intake and the exhaust had plently to give up...

so i would just get it on a 111+2, but it is up to u considering there are a ton of cams out there running okay in cars with tighter PTV clearance...
