LS1 C5, MN6, DD + big lope, cam thoughts? I'm getting ready to have a cam swap done on my car. Of course I've done a lot of searching and reading here, but I'd also be interested in people's thoughts about my specific situation.
The car is a 2002 C5 MN6, so it has the LS6 manifold and 3.42 gears. Significant mods are AR 1 3/4" headers with cats, B&B Bullets, and a Callaway Honker CAI. The car is a daily driver and sees north of 20k miles a year.
What I'm looking for is a "cam only" cam. I want to spin to 6800 or so, as much because I like the sound of it as anything else. I also want a very strong lope, for the same reason. I'm not a drag racer but I do like to beat it up on back roads, and mountain roads when I can get to them. So, looking for something with strong midrange but that carries well all the way to 6800-7000. Something fun to drive, fun to listen to, and that will be reliable. Installation and tuning will be done by one of the best Forum tuners. Several other tuners who are among the best in the country are reasonably local so I have no worries on that score.
Given all that, I've been thinking G5X3-112, but also considering something like a 224/228 110+0 LSK or 228/232 110+0 XER (both of which have the same events at .200, but the XER should sound meaner). I'm going to get professional advice from 2 of the best, but just for conversation's sake, if you were me, what would you be looking at?
