Is the motor what the guys says
ok I bought a motor form a guy and after a little bit of bs from him im im unsure now if its really a 383 like he says.. I have tried running the numbers in the search and i could not find anything
the pistons are JE with this number on them 3814f
the counter weight on the crank just has 4150 on it and thats the only marking i could find
the rods have this on them S5

3041 <~ that is excatly what it looks like on the rod ad the rod bolts say Eagle arp on them. I was wondering if any one could help me with these numbers and tell me what they mean.also is there any way to tell if the springs aren't strong enough for the cam like any ware patterns I can look for... thanks in advance chris

if the heads are still on the engine you can pull out a spark plug and use a section of wire (like from a coat hanger) and measure the stoke,, put the wire in the plug hole, turn the engine over till the wire is as far down as it will go,, put a mark on the wire, crank the engine till the wire is as high as it will go and put another mark on the wire,, pull the wire out and measure between the marks,,, stock stroke is 3.622",, 383 stroke is 4.00"
the only way to know if the springs are good is to have the pressure checked
