Design of the intake manifold creates more pressure in the back (7 & 8) cylinders. That is why a lot of FI guys go to the carb style intake.

The FAST does it as well. I burnt the #7 piston on my CETA shooting the car. I also mushroomed the #7 intake and exhaust valves in my old Z28

The #7 cylinder is also the last one to get fuel. So that also plays a big part in it.

I think there are possibly issues with coolant circulation in the back of the heads. Since the LS6 intakes eliminate water flow through the rear steam tubes, air pockets and /or hot spots could develop. As performance and hp increases so does heat.

When I installed my Fast, I afro engineered a set up that connected with the front steam tubes so that coolant would circulate. I was amazed how much coolant flowed through those back steam tubes.

I also think coolant plays a role. Coolant comes in the front and reversed direction in the back so the back of the motor is the hottest of the cylinders.

My tuner doesn't lean to 13:1, which seems to be the norm here just to help prevent this. He also showed me that going from a 12.5:1 to 13:1 on the dyno only netted a few hp.

I think a higher flow water pump might help, but its not proven either. Best is to make sure you don't lean your tune too much as a starter.

BS3 solves the #7/#8 cyl prob. Also if you dont have that if you ever had injectors flowed and matched, get the one that runs the fattest and put it there. Also a good tuner will make it run safe too. A cold plug couldnt hurt either.

If you can, keep the coolant tubes for the crossover, heat hurts it. Next is as previously mentioned, the fattest running injector you have when flow tested should be on 7. When tuned, don't go the traditional lean, richen it up a bit more than you would. I have my setup running 12.7 AFR, 13 would net a bit more hp, but I was aiming longevity.

Read the plugs after some driving. Your plugs will tell you the state of the burn going on inside.

I heard a company mounted the intake backwards and 7 was still the one to go.
