Default New Cam and Spring install writeup done

Well, after countless cam installs and who knows how many hours of work, I finally finished up the F-body version of the cam and valvespring swap writeup.

The goods are right here:
http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23

It has a FAQ, cam basics, and photos and text of everything you've gotta do to install a cam. If some of you experienced guys have done a few of these and think there is something I should add, email or MSG me and let me know!

And hopefully I can finally get some sleep!

Very nice! I don't think people realize how much time and effort go into a write-up such as this. I commend you for your work on this, and especially all the hard work on your install page

jmX, Awesome write up! Thanks!! How difficult was it to get to the back valve springs using the sawed off tool?

Thanks,
Bryan

Looks excellent! The only thing I would add is that the a/c condensor can be bungee corded to the hood latch during the r&r of the cam, for us guys that work entirely alone....

Good point . . . I did something simialar; bungeed mine to the passenger side quarter pannel and got it totally out of the way . . . had to rotate it 90* to do this but didn't break anything or cause any leaks, AC still works perfect. I did my cam install entirely alone also! I already emailed jmx with this but I guess he didn't like it because he didn't put it in his write up.

There are a couple of other things that I think should be added as well: get one of the extra strong 8 mm impact sockets for taking out the rocker bolts; many people break several normal sockets in doing so. Be sure to clean the threads with solvent on any bolt that you use locktite on, otherwise the locktite is useless. You can use carb cleaner or acetone to do this. Stuff a rag in the front of the oil pan before you take out the oil pump pickup tube bolt so you don't drop it in the pan. This is very easy to do.

Oh and BTW, this tool works MUCH better if you grind the lips down right under the bend. If anyone is interested, I can post a picture. If you don't do this, you will scratch the gasket surface on you heads, not a good thing. Also makes it much easier to use a stock rocker bolt on the tool.

Thanks guys!

Cal, I've used the bungee method many times before and it is fine. I didn't put them in this document because I figured most people will have a helper, but I may add it back in. I beleive I mention it in some of my other writeups. If you can take some pics of the tool I'd love it. I know exactly what you mean about grinding it, but I unfortunatly do not have one handy that I can take a photo of at the moment. I'd put the picture into the install if you could get me it. Thanks!

That right up is the best. I plan on doing another cam swap this winter and I'll use your guide if I run into a snag.

Are you ever going to do a LS1 Edit Tuning article? I've been learning it from an ex GM tech and so far, it seems pretty easy. Just the basic would be nice explain what table does what...
