Did you have time to check for any other damages?

The wiring harness that goes behind the intake is a bit melted, but I don't believe the wires are damaged-- just the black outer plastic.

The Knock sensor wires are completely gone.

And there are pieces of intake down in the heads... not sure if they've caused damage yet.

This makes a burst panel sound like a real good idea when running nitrous. Burst panels are cheap and easy to change, but intakes are not.

I wouldn't think this would happen though if you were in 5th gear at 50 mph or so. I have definetly heard of problem with fuel puddling in ls1/ls6 intakes though.
This would be my guess. 2800RPM in 5th gear would be lots of load and not a whole lot of air velocity in the intake. If the fuel solenoid were to start leaking and puddling up when you were cruising along in 5th, and then gave it a decent amount of gas and put a lot of load on the motor....POP!

The Facts:
1. Nitrous was NOT armed.
2. Nitrous bottle was CLOSED.
3. I was in 5th gear at about 2800 RPM
4. When I increased my speed to pass another vehicle, the engine backfired VERY loud.
5. WOT was never reached.
6. The intake is now blown apart on every runner.
7. The upper and lower lid are also destroyed.
8. I have been told this could be caused by a lean condition.
9. Any other internal damages have yet to be discovered.

I'm interested in seeing what other people might think caused this....
Anything else in the motor hurt?
